November brings regional holidays and regular weekend bank closures.
Bank customers planning their visits over the coming days may want to check the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar before heading to a branch. Regional festivals can lead to banks observing holidays in specific areas. The bank calendar lists October 29, 2026 as a holiday for Karwa Chauth in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Both public and private sector bank branches in the city will be closed for the occasion.
The holiday covers branches of State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Canara Bank, and Bank of Baroda (BoB) in Shimla. Bank holidays vary by state and city, depending on local festivals and official observances. A holiday in one region does not mean branches across the country will shut on the same day.
The next regional holiday listed in the calendar falls on October 31 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. November 1, will bring the usual weekly closure for bank branches nationwide.
Online Banking To Work During The Holiday
Customers will still be able to use mobile banking apps, Netbanking and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for routine transactions, subject to service availability. These channels can help with payments and fund transfers when a branch is closed.
National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transfers can also be made through digital banking channels where supported. Debit and credit cards, and ATMs (subject to cash availability) will be available for eligible payments and cash withdrawals.
However, customers who need to submit documents or complete work which requires a physical visit to the branch will have to plan their visits around the holiday. Checking with the bank holiday calendar beforehand can help avoid an unnecessary hassle.
The RBI calendar lists regional bank holidays on November 9, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23, 24 and 27. The dates cover local observances and may not apply to every state.
Regular weekend closures will also be in effect. Banks will be shut on November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, as well as the second Saturday on November 14 and the fourth Saturday on November 28.
Since holiday schedules vary by location, customers should check the dates applicable to their branch before planning banking work that requires an in-person visit.
