The State Bank of India (SBI) has stated that the mCASH service would no longer be available on OnlineSBI and YONO Lite from November 30, 2025. Customers would no longer be able to send money without registering a beneficiary or claim money on the mCASH app or link beyond the deadline. The bank has instructed all users to shift to other secure digital modes for transferring money.
SBI has advised customers to use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS to initiate money transfer. These are widely accepted, secure options and enable users to send funds to third-party beneficiaries without necessarily having to use mCASH. The bank's website has stated that all future money transfers should be done through these modes once mCASH is discontinued.
The mCASH facility allowed SBI customers to send money to anyone without registering them as a beneficiary. Users could transfer funds through OnlineSBI or State Bank Anywhere using the recipient’s mobile number or email ID. The recipient in turn could claim their funds through the mCASH mobile app or a secure link sent by way of an SMS or e-mail. Each transaction involved the use of an 8-digit passcode for security.
mCASH service enables recipients to claim the funds sent by customers through SBI. They can save their frequently used account numbers and IFSC codes as 'Favourites' for quicker claims in the future. To use this mCASH facility, customers have to download the SBI mCASH app and register an MPIN for login.
The BHIM SBI Pay UPI app is the next step of SBI mCASH. It can be used for sending and receiving money. The app works with all banks participating in the UPI system. It also allows online bill payments, recharges, and shopping.
To use UPI to transfer money, users have to log in to the BHIM SBI Pay App, and click on the ‘Pay’ option, choose their payment method, such as VPA, Account With IFSC, or QR Code, and fill in the necessary information about the payee. Then, they have to select the debit account from linked accounts and click the tick mark, and enter their UPI PIN to authorise the transaction. Lastly, they have to click the tick mark again to complete the payment since mCASH has been discontinued.
