State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a temporary disruption in OTP-based digital banking services due to scheduled maintenance activity in the early hours of May 23, 2026.
In a post on X, the public sector lender said that customers may face intermittent issues while using OTP-based services on internet banking, YONO Lite and YONO between 1:00 am and 1:20 am IST.
The bank said the maintenance activity could affect customer journeys that depend on one-time passwords for authentication and transaction approvals. OTPs are commonly used for logging into digital banking accounts, authorising fund transfers and verifying profile-related changes.
SBI has stated that customers can continue using ATM services, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments, Secure OTP and SBI Authenticator during the maintenance window. These channels are expected to function without interruption.
The bank advised customers to use these alternative options if they need to carry out banking transactions during the affected period. Customers planning scheduled payments or account-related activities using these platforms may also choose to complete them before the maintenance window begins.
Digital banking disruptions linked to scheduled maintenance are generally carried out to update systems, strengthen security, and improve service stability. Banks usually conduct such exercises during late-night or early-morning hours when transaction volumes are relatively lower.
SBI’s YONO and YONO Lite platforms are widely used for services such as fund transfers, bill payments, deposits, account management and shopping-related transactions. Internet banking services are also commonly used by retail and corporate customers for daily banking activities.
During the maintenance window, user logins and transaction authentication on these platforms may be affected by temporary outages or delays in generating OTP.
The bank apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their understanding. No further disruption beyond the announced 20-minute period has been indicated so far.
Customers can also keep alternative payment options available; they are advised to avoid scheduling important and urgent transactions that require OTP during the maintenance hours to avoid delays.
