Crypto enthusiasts who play mobile games on Android should remain vigilant. A newly discovered vulnerability in Unity-powered games could allow attackers to insert malicious code onto devices, possibly compromising cryptocurrency wallets and sensitive personal data.

As reported by CoinTelegraph, the Unity gaming platform is quietly rolling out a fix for a vulnerability that allows third-party code to run in Android-based mobile games, potentially putting mobile crypto wallets at risk, according to two anonymous sources. The issue affects Unity projects dating back to 2017 and is primarily targeted at Android devices, but it also affects Windows, macOS, and Linux computers to variable degrees. Unity has begun distributing patches and a standalone tool to select partners, with broader guidance expected soon.

Google has acknowledged the issue and is assisting developers in releasing updated apps. A spokesperson told CoinTelegraph that developers should update affected games immediately. Based on current detections, no malicious apps exploiting this vulnerability have been found on Google Play so far.

The vulnerability could allow attackers to inject code into Unity-based games, which in some cases might lead to a full device compromise on Android. Attackers may modify screens, collect user inputs, and access sensitive information, such as login credentials and crypto wallet seed phrases, even if they do not have complete control over them.

Neeraj Khandelwal, Co-founder of CoinDCX, shared on his LinkedIn post that crypto gamers should stay alert. A newly discovered vulnerability in Unity-powered Android games could allow attackers to inject malicious code, potentially compromising crypto wallets and other sensitive information. This issue primarily affects Android users, while iOS players are currently not impacted, but vigilance is recommended for all mobile gamers.

He also suggested adopting safeguards, including as updating Unity-based games as soon as fixes are released, avoiding sideloading programs or APKs from untrustworthy sources, and using separate devices for gaming and storing your primary crypto holdings. Taking these precautions can help protect crypto assets, prevent illegal access, and maintain overall device security while playing mobile games.
