Kraken Warns Crypto Users Lack Basic Security Awareness at Event

Crypto users are showing poor situational awareness at events, warns Kraken. Kraken’s security team has raised concerns about a growing habit among crypto event attendees of leaving their laptops and phones both unlocked and unattended. In a June 5 blog post, Chief Security Officer Nick Percoco noted that these devices often contain sensitive personal and organizational crypto assets, making them attractive targets for potential theft.

At these events, scammers often pose as legitimate attendees using fake identities to blend in and exploit lax security. Basic precautions like keeping devices locked and close by are essential. Percoco also warns about “juice jacking,” where malicious USB charging stations install malware or steal data. Public WiFi networks are another risk, as attackers can spoof or compromise them to access sensitive information.

“Crypto is about being your own bank, and personal security must come first,” Percoco emphasizes. One careless moment at a conference can jeopardize financial freedom and security, says Kraken.

Yuga Labs Proposes Replacing ApeCoin DAO with New ApeCo Entity

Yuga Labs is proposing a major overhaul of the ApeCoin ecosystem by shutting down the ApeCoin DAO and replacing it with a new management entity called ApeCo. CEO Greg Solano acknowledged the DAO’s early importance but criticized it for becoming dysfunctional, describing its governance as slow and focused on low-impact proposals. On X, Solano wrote that it’s time for a “leaner, faster org” to lead ApeCoin forward.

The proposal calls for ending the DAO governance system, stripping tokenholders of governance rights, nullifying past decisions, and dissolving working groups and elections. All DAO assets, including ApeCoin tokens, intellectual property, smart contracts, and infrastructure, would transfer to ApeCo. The newly proposed entity by Yuga Labs aims to adopt a focused funding strategy, back leading developers, and reinforce initiatives such as ApeChain, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), and Otherside. Greg Solano highlighted that ApeCoin is intended to drive the ecosystem’s economic future.

Crypto Lobby Seeks Software Developer Protections in New Crypto Bill

US crypto lobby groups are pushing lawmakers to add protections for software developers and infrastructure providers to the crypto regulation bill, CoinTelegraph reports. On June 5, major groups including DeFi Education Fund, Coin Center, and Solana Policy Institute jointly called for the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA) to be added to the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act of 2025.

The BRCA would exempt developers of non-custodial crypto platforms from being labelled as money transmitters. Introduced in May, the CLARITY Act seeks to define the regulatory responsibilities of the SEC and CFTC concerning digital assets. According to CoinTelegraph, Representatives Tom Emmer and Ritchie Torres have also reintroduced the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA).

The groups stressed that developers building peer-to-peer software and decentralized infrastructure differ from traditional financial institutions and shouldn’t be regulated as such. Coin Center’s Neeraj Agrawal also flagged concerns about unconstitutional surveillance risks. Meanwhile, SEC chair Paul Atkins said regulators will focus more on engagement than enforcement going forward.
