The Indian crypto exchange WazirX has completed the allocation of Recovery Tokens to all eligible users under the court approved restructuring scheme. Users can now view their allocated tokens in the app.

The platform resumed operations on 24 October 2025 after completion of its court-approved restructuring. According to the WazirX release, within 10 business days, the platform distributed around 85 per cent of Rebalanced Net Liquid Platform Assets to eligible users, as specified in the Scheme.

Recovery Tokens (RTs) are allocated to Scheme Creditors on a pro-rata basis, based on each user’s Approved Claim. This ensures that eligible users remain proportionally included in any future recoveries realised by the platform.

Under the Scheme, recoveries are evaluated every three months. WazirX reported that if at least USD 10 million (approximately Rs 902 crore) is realised during a cycle, a portion of the value is used to buy back Recovery Tokens. If the recovered amount is less than USD 10 million, it is carried forward to the next cycle and combined with new recoveries until it reaches the threshold for distribution.

Currently, Recovery Tokens cannot be traded. They may become tradable in the future that subject to applicable legal and regulatory approvals.

WazirX mentioned an example of how Recovery Tokens are given proportionally depending on each user's Approved Claim. Priya, a creditor on the WazirX platform has a $10,000 total claim as of July 18, 2024.

Priya's portion of the total claims was used to calculate how many Recovery Tokens she would get using the pro-rata method. Priya received 18,315.0183 Recovery Tokens after using this formula.

The platform resumed operations came nearly 15 months after a cyberattack forced the platform to suspend its services. The crypto exchange had halted its services in July 2024 due to a $230 million loss caused by a digital wallet security breach.
