The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en route to London, went down shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12. The crash site, a densely populated residential area in Meghaninagar, included housing quarters of doctors from BJ Medical College.

According to some media reports, the aircraft are carrying 242 people that included 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members and 2 pilots. The crash resulted in a massive explosion which was further worsened by the full fuel load and caused huge fire damage and panic.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance has issued an official statement expressing its condolences to the affected families. The insurer has now set up a special claims settlement desk which aims to prioritse and fast track life insurance claims related to the crash.

“We understand the immense emotional and logistical difficulties families are going through at this moment,” the company said. “We are committed to doing everything we can to ease the claims process during this time.”

The insurer has currently activated an expedited settlement mechanism for death and disability claims of its customers affected by the crash. To ensure this the insurer has set up a:

1) Simplified Documentation Protocol: If a death certificate is not immediately available, a certificate from the municipal authority or hospital will be accepted in its place to begin the claim process.

For this, nominees will also need to provide KYC documents and a bank mandate.

2) Affected families or legal heirs of the policyholders can reach out to the insurer via their toll free number 1800-209-7272 or email regarding the same at claims@bajajallianz.co.in or mailto:claims@bajajallianz.co.in

There is also the option of visiting any of the 596 branches across the country.

By reducing paperwork and offering multiple touchpoints for communication, the insurer is aiming to reduce at least one layer of burden for those mourning their loss.
