How Senior Citizens Can Enroll In PM-JAY For Health Insurance Coverage

PM Jan Arogya Yojana is an insurance policy offered to seniors over 70 years of age with a cap of Rs.5 lakhs. Read how to enroll

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana, launched in 2018, provides health coverage to beneficiaries from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011. It was extended to all resident senior citizens aged 70 and above in October 2024, covering over 12 crore families and 6 crore senior citizens. As of November 11, the scheme had 30,733 hospitals, including 17,084 government and 13,649 private hospitals, covering over 6 crore families and 6 crore senior citizens.

PM-JAY provides health insurance for older persons. The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana provides free health insurance of up to Rs.5 lakh per year for underprivileged parts of society as well as older individuals over the age of 70, regardless of their income.

Here is how to enroll:

Download the application

Senior citizens or their family members can download the Ayushman Bharat app from the Google Play Store or the official website. The user can then select the desired language for proceeding further.

Log in for enrollment

The option 'Login as beneficiary' must be selected by providing the 'captcha' and cellphone number. Enter the OTP issued to the mobile number. After logging in, go to the bottom of the home screen for senior citizens’ enrolment.

Aadhaar Validation

Enter the Aadhaar number and authenticate it using the OTP issued to the registered cellphone number. Then enter your state of residence. After entering the ‘captcha’, a search option is activated which, upon clicking, will check if the senior citizen is already registered with the scheme. If not, the senior citizen needs to apply for fresh enrolment. Another round of OTP verification will be carried out, after which the application will prompt the senior citizen to click their live photo for verification.

Provide details

The senior citizen then needs to input details such as the mobile number for OTP verification, city, state, address, ward details, pin code, etc., and submit.

Submit an application

Once all the details are entered, the user can submit the application for approval. Once approved, the Ayushman card is issued to the beneficiary who can then avail of the benefits of the scheme.
