BSE Ltd Falls 9 Per Cent, Slips To 4-Month Low After NSE Shifts F&O Epiry Day To Monday

BSE Ltd.'s shares fell by 9 per cent after NSE announced it would move the expiry day for all F&O contracts to Monday, instead of Thursday

Shares of BSE Ltd. crashed as much as 9.4 per cent to a low of Rs 4,035.10 in early trade on Wednesday, March 5 after its peer National Stock Exchange (NSE) shifted its expiry day for all weekly and monthly derivatives contracts to Monday.

With this slump, BSE shares have slipped to its 4-month low. The exchange’s shares have been on a continuous decline for the past eight sessions, except on March 4.

In these eight sessions, the stock has seen a correction of over 32 per cent, and from its all-time high of Rs 6,133.40, it has fallen 34 per cent.

In a circular issued late Tuesday, NSE announced that Nifty weekly contracts, which currently expire on Thursday, will now expire on Monday every week.

The Monthly, Quarterly and Half Yearly contracts, the Nifty Bank monthly and quarterly contracts, and the Financial Services, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Next 50 Monthly Contracts, which expire on the last Thursday of every month, will now expire on the last Monday. Similarly, for individual stocks also the expiry date has been shifted to Monday.

NSE said, this change will come into effect from April 4. This means that the expiry day for all current contracts will be changed to the new expiry day on April 3, 2025 (end of the day).

“The settlement schedule shall be intimated separately by Clearing Corporations,” NSE said in the circular.

“Revised expiry date of all existing derivatives contracts shall be available in the contract file which shall be generated on April 03, 2025 end of the day which shall be applicable for trading on April 04, 2025,” NSE added.

In November, BSE announced that it would move the monthly expiry dates for Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex50 to the last Tuesday of each month, which took effect from January 1, 2025. The weekly contracts for Sensex also expire on Tuesdays.
