Is Stock Market Open Today On Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti?

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is a public and bank holiday across Maharashtra. Is the stock market open today?

The stock markets in India, including the BSE and NSE, are open on Wednesday, February 19, which means trading will continue to function as usual. Investors and traders will be able to buy and sell securities, including stocks and derivatives, as they typically would during regular market hours.

However, clearing and settlement for pay-in and pay-out of stocks and funds will remain closed on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. As a result, all transactions carried out on February 18 and 19, whether in the cash segment or the futures and options (F&O) segment, will not be reflected in demat accounts until February 20, when clearing and settlement will resume.

Trading activity across equity, derivatives and securities lending and borrowings (SLB) is open today, however, the current and auction markets are closed.

Further, profits and credits received from equity trades or existing positions in the derivatives segment including both F&O and CDS on February 18 and February 19 will be available for withdrawal only by the end of the trading day on February 20.

Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow transactions will also not be allowed for Margin Trading Facility (MTF) on February 19, as such transactions are typically prohibited due to the settlement cycle.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is not only a public holiday for the state of Maharashtra but also a bank holiday across the region.

Stock Market Today

The 30-share benchmark BSE Sensex on February 19 opened in the red at 75,787.27. Likewise, the NSE Nifty 50 opened in the negative territory at 22,847.25.

On February 18, Sensex closed flat with a slight negative bias at 75,967.39, down by 29.47 points or 0.04 per cent. The Nifty 50, however, closed slightly up in the green at 22,945.30, up by 14.20 points or 0.06 per cent.

Sensex and Nifty 50 have declined 11.6 per cent and 12.7 per cent, respectively, from their all-time highs.
