Sensex And Nifty Close In Green; Tata Motors, Jio Financial Services And Bajaj Finance Emerge As Top Gainers

Sensex, Nifty Today: On May 7 the headline indices closed higher despite escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The BSE Sensex closed in the green at 80,746.78 level up by 105.71 points or 0.13 per cent. The 50-share Nifty also closed at 24,414.4 up by 34.8 points or 0.14 per cent.

Tata Motors, Jio Financial Services And Bajaj Finance Lead Gainers

Shares of Tata Motors, Jio Financial Services And Bajaj Finance gained as much as 5.18 per cent and emerged as top-Nifty gainers. Asian Paints, Sun Pharmaceutical and Bajaj Auto declined as much as 3.97 per cent on the NSE and came out as top-Nifty losers. The benchmark witnessed 24 advances and 26 declines on May 7.

Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables

Sectoral indices such as the Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables gained the most on May 7 with the indices closing higher by as much as 1.66 per cent. On the other hand the Nifty Pharma and the Nifty FMCG index closed in the red by as low as 0.52 per cent. In the broader-market indices such as the Nifty MidCap 100 and the Nifty SmallCap 100 closed in the green, gaining up to 1.59 per cent at the close.

Global Markets

Key US market indices such as the Nasdaq Composite, S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) ended in the red by as low as 0.95 per cent on May 6. At the time of writing, key European indices like the UK’s FTSE 100, France’s CAC 40 and the DAX Performance Index were in the red zone down by as low as 0.53 per cent. Asian indices like Japan’s Nikkei 225 traded lower by 0.14 per cent at the time of writing. Other Asian indices such as Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite traded in the green up by 0.79 per cent.

The SME issues of Srigee DLM Ltd and Manoj Jewellers Ltd opened for bidding on May 5. Notably the subscription window for both the BSE SME issues closed on May 7.

US Fed Rate Announcement

The US Federal Reserve will announce lending rates on May 7. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is expected to keep rates unchanged at 4.25 to 4.5 per cent.
