Sensex, Nifty Close Higher By Over 1 Per Cent As Headline Indices Extend Gaining Spree For Fifth Session

Sensex, Nifty Today: Out of the 50 shares which are a part of the Nifty 50 index, as many as 39 stocks advanced and 11 stocks declined. Tech Mahindra Ltd, Trent Ltd, IndusInd Bank Ltd, Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd and Hero Motocorp Ltd gained the most as they closed higher by up to 5.14 per cent.

Sensex, Nifty Today: The 30-share Sensex closed zoomed 855.3 points or 1.09 per cent to hit close at 79,408.5 on April 21. On the other hand the Nifty 50 index surged 273.9 points or 1.15 per cent to close at 24,125.55 levels. Notably the headline indices have extended a gaining spree for the fifth straight session.

Top Gainers And Losers On April 21

Out of the 50 shares that are a part of the Nifty 50 index, as many as 39 stocks advanced, and 11 stocks declined. Tech Mahindra Ltd, Trent Ltd, IndusInd Bank Ltd, Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd and Hero Motocorp Ltd gained the most as they closed higher by up to 5.14 per cent. On the other hand, shares of Adani Ports and and Special Economic Zone, HDFC Life Insurance Company, ITC and Hindustan Unilever Ltd closed lower by as much as 1.27 per cent.

IT, Auto And Realty Indices Surge

While most major sectoral indices closed in the green, Nifty IT, Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty indices gained the most as they closed higher by up to 2.29 per cent. Broader market indices such as the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 closed in the green up by 2.21 and 2.5 per cent respectively amid increasing volatility as the India VIX index closed higher by 0.3 per cent.

Global Markets

On April 17, Wall Street indices such as the Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower by as much as 1.33 per cent. On the other hand the S&P 500 closed higher by 0.13 per cent. European indices such as the CAC 40 and the Dax Performance Index closed lower by as much as 0.6 per cent. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 closed flat up by 0.00073 per cent. Asian indices such as the Nikkei 225 closed lower by 1.31 per cent, while the Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite closed higher by up to 1.61 per cent.

Primary Market Action

The SME IPO of Tankup Engineers Ltd is expected to open for a subscription later this week, on April 23. On the other hand, LG Electronics India Ltd is expected to file an updated Draft Red Herring Prospectus next month as per a report by the Financial Express

Cues To Watch
