Market Wrap: Sensex At 78,017, Nifty Above 23,600 As Benchmark Indices Close Flat With Positive Bias

The relief rally seen in the Indian markets in the last seven sessions witnessed a slowdown as benchmark indices closed flat on March 25. The Nifty closed at the 23,668.65 level up by 10.3 points or 0.04 per cent. The Sensex closed at 78,017.19 up by 32.81 points or 0.04 per cent.

Top Gainers And Losers On March 25

Ultratech Cement Company, Trent and Bajaj Finserv’s shares surged the most on March 25 and emerged as top Nifty gainers closing higher by up to 3.21 per cent. Other major gainers included Grasim and Infosys. IndusInd Bank, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Adani Entertainment Enterprises emerged as top drags, closing lower by as much as 5.12 per cent.

Major Sectoral Indices Close In Red

Major sectoral indices closed in the red with the Nifty Realty ending lower by 1.46 per cent and the Nifty Consumer Durables index closing lower by 1.93 per cent. The Nifty IT index managed to close in the green up by 1.32 per cent. Broader market indices snapped their winning streak as the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 index closed lower by as much as 1.56 per cent.

Global Markets

On March 25, US-based indices closed in the green as Dow Jones Futures and the S&P 500 gained up to 1.76 per cent at the close. European markets such as the UK’s FTSE, France’s CAC and Germany’s DAX closed higher by up to 0.85 per cent. Asian indices such as Nikkei 225 closed up by 0.46 per cent and on the other hand the Hang Seng index closed lower by 2.4 per cent.

Primary Market Action

The public issues of Shri Ahimsa Naturals Ltd and ATC Energies System Ltd opened for subscription on March 25. The bidding window for both the issues is expected to close on March 27.
