Sensex Falls 519 Points, Nifty Ends Below 25,600, Metals, IT Emerge Top Drags

The benchmark indices ended a volatile trade on November 4, 2025 dragged by index heavyweights, as investors adjusted their positions ahead of the weekly futures and options (F&O) expiry.

The Nifty 50 traded between 25,578.40 and 25,787.40 before ending slightly lower at 25,597.65, down 165.70 points or 0.64 per cent from its previous close. Similarly, the Sensex hovered between 83,412.77 and 84,068.01 before closing at 83,459.15, down 519.34 points, or 0.62 per cent.

The broader market indices mirrored the subdued sentiment. The Nifty Midcap 100 fell 0.42 per cent, the Nifty Smallcap 100 declined 0.82 per cent, and the Nifty Microcap 250 fell 0.76 per cent. Nifty 500, which represents more than 92 per cent of the total free float market cap of all NSE-listed stocks, logged 0.57 per cent losses.

Metals, IT Emerge Top Losers

Among sectors, the Nifty Metal and the Nifty IT fell 1.44 per cent and 1.06 per cent, respectively, emerging as the top losers. All other major sectoral indices closed in the red, except Nifty Consumer Durables, which gained 0.39 per cent.

Nifty Bank, which tracks the 12 most valuable and liquid banking stocks, fell 0.47 per cent to close at 57,827.05.

Nifty 50: Top Gainers & Losers

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, Titan gained 2.30 per cent, Bharti Airtel rose 1.74 per cent, Bajaj Finance was up 1.11 per cent, and Mahindra & Mahindra advanced 1 per cent. HDFC Life Insurance, State Bank of India, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, SBI Life Insurance were other stocks which ended in green.

On the other hand, Power Grid fell 3.19 per cent to emerge as the biggest loser. Following it, Eternal (formerly Zomato), Adani Enterprises, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Maruti, and Tata Steel fell between 1.80 per cent to 2.80 per cent. Tata Consumer Products, Bharat Electronics, Jio Financial Services, Eicher Motors, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, and ITC were the other stocks that ended in the red.

Stock Market Outlook

Asian stocks closed lower on November 4 as investors booked profits after a recent tech-driven rally. Weak US economic data and mixed signals from Federal Reserve officials also weighed on market sentiment, adding uncertainty over a possible rate cut in December.

Meanwhile, talks on the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) gained pace as EU negotiators reached New Delhi the previous day. Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met with Maroš Šefčovič, the EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, to review the progress of the discussions. Market participants will be tracking this space for further cues.

As many as 119 BSE-listed companies are set to report their quarterly results for the period ending September 30, 2025 on November 5. Among the major companies that will report their Q2 results include Grasim industries, Sun Pharma, Britannia Industries, Aurobindo Pharma, and Godrej Agrovet.
