Share Market Holiday: Is D-Street Open For Trade On Buddha Purnima

Stock Market Holiday: According to the BSE calendar D-street will not observe a stock market holiday in the next two months (June and July). D-Street will remain closed on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.

Stock Market Holiday: Investors are waiting for trade activity to resume on D-Street following the two-session declining spree of the headline indices. On May 9 the Nifty 50 index closed at 24,008 level down by 265.8 points or 1.1 per cent. The 30-share Sensex ended lower by 880 points or 1.1 per cent at 79,454.47 levels.

Is Stock Market Open Today

The decline seen on D-street came amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Notably the festival of Budh Purnima will be celebrated across India on May 12. The day marks the day on which Siddhartha Gautama was born. Despite the celebration of the auspicious occasion D-street will remain open for trade. The same can be checked  via the stock market holidays 2025 calendar on the BSE website. According to the BSE calendar trading activity will continue in normal market hours on May 12, 2025. Notably only one stock market holiday was scheduled for the month of May which fell on May 1(Maharashtra Day).

How Will Stock Market Open Today

Following the two sessions of declines the headline indices are expected to have a gap-up start on May 12. The GIFT Nifty is trading higher by nearly 460 points at 24,553 in early trade. A ceasefire between India and Pakistan announced on May 10, is expected to relieve investor sentiment. However volatility continues to remain high with the India VIX India VIX closing in the green zone on May 9.

Other key tail-winds for the Indian stock market include easing trade tensions between US and China. Notably both sides seem to have made progress in resolving trade tensions.  Scott Bessent the US Treasury Secretary called the meetings between the two countries “highly productive,” on the other hand Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng also stated that the two countries have reached an “important consensus.”

Stock Market Holidays In 2025

According to the BSE calendar D-street will not observe a stock market holiday in the next two months (June and July). D-Street will remain closed on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day. After Independence Day the next stock market holiday falls on August 27 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The other stock market holidays in 2025 will fall on October 2, 2025 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, October 21 for Diwali, and October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada. In the month of November the market will remain closed on Prakash Gurpurb (November 5) and on Christmas (December 25).

Budh Purnima 2025: Are Banks Open Today

Banks will remain closed in some parts of the country on May 12. A bank holiday will be observed across Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar according to the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar. Apart from banks central government offices, post offices, and schools will  also remain closed on May 12 as Budh Purnima is a gazetted holiday for central government employees.
