Share Market News: The 30-share Sensex and the benchmark Nifty snapped a four day losing streak on July 15. However the benchmark indices are likely to open lower today amid weak global cues and escalating geopolitical tensions. Caution is expected to prevail in the markets amid fluctuations in gold rates and crude oil prices. The announcement of first quarter results for FY 2025-26 by major listed companies is also set to affect D-street today.

The Gift City Nifty opened lower on July 16 and at the time of writing the index fell to 25,155.5, indicating a weak start for the benchmarks. On July 15 the Sensex ended at 82,570.91 up by 0.39 per cent and the Nifty ended at 25,195.8 up by 0.45 per cent.

Russia-Ukraine Tensions

Geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine are likely to intensify amid the US changing its stance on the issue. According to a report by the Financial Times, US President Donald Trump has privately urged Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy to conduct strikes on Russian territory. An escalation in geopolitical tensions is likely to increase uncertainty and impact the market negatively.

Crude Oil Prices On July 16

Crude oil prices edged higher in the early hours of July 16. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude price gained $0.28 or 0.42 per cent at $66.8 and the Brent Crude price stood at $68.88 up by $0.17 or 0.25 per cent.

Gold Rate On July 16

Gold rates slipped on July 16, the price of one gram of 24 karat gold stood at Rs 9,976, the price of 22 karat gold stood at Rs 9,144 and the price of one gram of 18 karat gold stood at Rs 7,482.

Stocks To Watch On July 16

On July 16, companies such as Tech Mahindra, ITC Hotels, Angel One, DB Corp, Le Travenues Technology, Kalpataru, Lotus Chocolate Company, L&T Technology Services and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure are set to announce their financial results for the June quarter of FY 2025-26.

Dixon Technologies (India)

Dixon Technologies share price is expected to be in focus after the company informed the exchanges that it has entered into a binding term sheet with Kunshan Q Tech Microelectronics (India). The company plans to acquire a 51 per cent stake in Q Tech India.

Kotak Mahindra Bank

Kotak Mahindra Bank share price is expected to be in focus on July 16 after the company’s President and Chief Credit Officer, Phani Shankar resigned from his position. The private sector lender added that Shankar’s resignation will become effective July 21 onwards.

Zydus Lifesciences

Zydus Lifesciences shares will be in focus on July 16 after the company informed the exchanges that it has got final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its Celecoxib capsules. The drug is used to provide relief to people suffering from arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and menstrual pain.

Biocon

Biocon share price is expected to be in focus after the company’s subsidiary Biocon Biologics received approval from US FDA for KIRSTY (Insulin Aspart-xjhz).

Jindal Steel & Power

Jindal Steel and Power share price is expected to be in focus on July 16 after Mayank Gupta the Chief Financial Officer of the company resigned from his post effective July 15.

US Markets End Mixed

US market indices finished the session mixed on July 16. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) finished the session at 44,023.29 down by 436.36 points or 0.98 per cent. The S&P 500 also closed at 6,243.76 down by 24.8 points or 0.4 per cent. The Nasdaq Composite finished the session at 20,677.8 up by 37.47 points or 0.18 per cent.

Asian Indices Trade Mixed On July 16

The Shanghai Composite and the KOSPI opened slightly lower on July 16. Conversely the Hang Seng and the Nikkei 225 opened higher. At the time of writing Nikkei 225 and Hang Seng traded higher by 0.12 per cent and 0.38 per cent respectively. The KOSPI and the Shanghai Composite traded lower by 0.59 per cent and 0.14 per cent respectively.
