Stock Market Holidays In 2025: D-street is expected to remain closed for the next three days. The BSE and the National Stock Exchange will remain closed for the rest of the week, starting April 18 on the occasion of Good Friday. Notably no trading activity will take place on Saturday and Sunday as well and trading will resume next week on April 21.

As the market is closed, no trading activity or settlements will take place across segments such as ‘equity, equity derivatives, SLB, currency derivatives, NDS-RST, Tri-Party Repo, Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR)’ according to the BSE website.

Will Commodity Trading Take Place On Friday

No commodities trading will take place in either the morning session or the evening session on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) on which the trading of agricultural commodities takes place will also remain closed on Friday.

Why Is Good Friday Celebrated

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as per Christian traditions. In the Christian faith, the day is commemorated to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ. The day is observed on the Friday of the Holy Week, the commemoration ends with the celebration of Easter on Sunday. The date for the occasion is determined on the basis of Easter Sunday. Notably, the Easter Sunday refers to the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.

Stock Market Holidays In 2025

Notably, the April had the maximum number of trading holidays among all months in 2025. So far two holidays in April have already passed, with the first one being on April 10 (Thursday) for Mahavira Jayanti and the second one on April 14 (Monday) for Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti.

The next stock market holiday is on May 1 on account of Maharashtra Day, making it the only stock market holiday in the entire month. Following May 1, there will be no stock market holidays in June and July apart from the weekly closing days (Saturday and Sunday).

In August the market will remain closed for two days, first on August 15 (Friday) on the occasion of Independence Day and the second holiday on August 27 (Wednesday) on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. There will be no stock market holidays in September.

In October the stock market will remain closed for three days -- October 2 (Thursday) on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra, October 21 (Tuesday) on the occasion of Diwali and October 22 (Wednesday) on the occasion of Balipratipada.

On April 17, the Indian stock market traded with continued momentum as the headline indices extended gains. At the time of writing the Sensex traded at 78,548.85 levels adding 1,504.56 points or 1.95 per cent. The Nifty 50 also gained 422 points or 1.8 per cent to trade at 23,859.2 levels.
