Stock Market News: Sensex Adds Over 400 Points, Nifty Reclaims 26,000 As Headline Indices Extend Gains

Share Market News: Headline indices extended gains on December 12. The Sensex closed at around 85,267.66 levels, up by 449.53 points or 0.53 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty 50 reclaimed 26,000. The Nifty 50 closed at 26,046.95, up by 148.4 points or 0.57 per cent.

In today’s trade sectoral indices performed mixed, while the broader market indices performed better than the benchmarks.

Tata Steel and Hindalco Lead Nifty Gainers

Shares of Tata Steel and Hindalco Industries emerged as the top-gainers among Nifty 50 stocks as they closed 3.38 per cent and 3.26 per cent higher on the NSE. Other significant gainers included Eternal, Ultratech Cement and Larsen & Toubro, which finished with gains of 2.37 per cent, 2.25 per cent and 1.72 per cent, respectively. As many as 14 constituents of the benchmark finished in the red while 36 finished in the green.

Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal Gain

The Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty indices gained the most among all sectoral indices as they ended higher by 2.63  per cent and 1.53 per cent, respectively. The broader market indices extended gains as the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 closed higher by 0.94 per cent and 1.18 per cent, respectively.

Asian Markets on December 12

All Asian indices finished the session with gains on December 12. The Nikkei 225 and Hang Seng advanced the most, finishing higher by 1.45 per cent and 1.62 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the Shanghai Composite and KOSPI gained 0.41 per cent and 1.36 per cent, respectively.

Primary Market Action On December 12

The public issue of ICICI Prudential AMC IPO opened for subscription today. On the other hand, the public issues of Nephrocare Health Services IPO and Park Medi World IPO saw tepid demand on the final day of subscription.

Market Cues

The Sensex and Nifty ended the current week with gains. In the upcoming sessions, ongoing trade negotiations and news related to a potential India-US trade deal will be closely monitored. On the other hand, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continue to be net sellers, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continue to buy Indian equities. Changes in institutional flows are expected to impact investor sentiment in the upcoming week.
