Share Market News: Headline indices finished the session in the red for the second straight day on January 14, 2026, amid rising uncertainty related to the US-India trade negotiations and elevated geopolitical tensions. The Sensex ended the session at 83,382.71, down by 244.98 points or 0.29 per cent, while the Nifty 50 closed around the 25,665.60 level, down by 66.70 points or 0.26 per cent.

Earlier in the day, the Nifty 50 climbed to 25,791, buoyed by buying in select sectors, such as metals, commodities, energy, and oil and gas. However, weakness in realty, IT, and the FMCG space led to the index closing lower.

Asian Paints and Tata Consultancy Services Lead Losers

Shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Asian Paints led the losers among the Nifty 50 stocks, as they closed 2.15 per cent and 2.40 per cent lower on the NSE, respectively. Other Nifty losers included Tata Consumer Products, Maruti Suzuki India, and Hindustan Unilever, which closed lower by as much as 1.72 per cent. A total of 27 stocks from the Nifty 50 declined today, while 23 closed the session with gains.

Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank Lead Gainers

The Nifty Metal and the Nifty PSU Bank indices bucked the trend to finish the session with gains. The Nifty Metal ended the session with gains of 2.70 per cent, and the Nifty PSU Bank closed the session with gains of 2.13 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty IT and the Nifty Realty closed lower by 1.08 per cent and 0.92 per cent. Even as the benchmark indices extended losses, the broader market indices ended the session with gains. The Nifty MidCap 100 and the Nifty SmallCap 100 closed higher by 0.29 per cent and 0.69 per cent, respectively.

Asian Markets on January 14

Asian indices closed in the green zone on January 14. The Nikkei 225 and the Hang Seng closed higher by 1.34 per cent and 0.44 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the KOSPI finished with gains of 0.64 per cent, while the Shanghai Composite closed lower by 0.31 per cent.

Primary Market Action On January 14

The share allotment status of Bharat Coking Coal’s initial public offering (IPO) is set to be finalised today, on January 14. On the other hand, the demand for Amagi Media Labs shares remained tepid. On the small and medium enterprise (SME) front, the Armour Security India IPO opened for bidding, while the Avana Electrosystems IPO closed for subscription.

Market Cues

The stock market is set to remain closed for trade on January 15 on account of municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. As the market resumes trade on January 16, investors will factor in the announcement of Q3 FY26 results and the impact of any potential announcements related to India-US trade.
