Sensex, Nifty End Flat Amid Increasing Volatility - Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance And IndusInd Bank Emerge As Top Gainers

Stock Market Today: Shares of Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, and IndusInd Bank gained the most among the constituents of the Nifty 50 index, closing higher by up to 4.37 per cent

Stock Market News: The BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 ended flat with a positive bias on May 2. The 30-share Sensex closed at 80,501.99, which was up by 259.75 points or 0.32 percent. The Nifty 50 index also closed higher by 12.5 points or 0.05 per cent at 24,346.7.

Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance And IndusInd Bank Emerge As Top Gainers

Shares of Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance And IndusInd Bankl gained the most among constituents of the Nifty 50 index as they closed higher by up to 4.37 per cent. JSW Steel, Bajaj Auto and Eicher Motors shares closed lower by as much as 5.81 per cent on the NSE. Notably 18 constituents of the benchmark index closed in the green while 32 constituents ended in the red.

Nifty IT and Nifty Oil & Gas Index Close Higher

Nifty IT and the Nifty Oil & Gas index closed in the green amid broadbased selling. The two indices closed higher by up to 0.73 per cent. On the other hand sectoral indices like the Nifty Metal and Nifty Consumer Durables index closed lower by as much as 0.73  per cent.  The Nifty MidCap 100 and the Nifty SmallCap 100 closed lower by as much as 0.78 per cent. The India VIX closed higher by 0.19 per cent indicating an increase in volatility.

Global Markets

Wall Street indices such as the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq Composite ended higher by as much as 1.52 per cent. At the time of writing, European indices such as the FTSE 100, CAC 40 and the DAX Performance index traded higher by as much as 1.76 per cent. Asian indices such as the Hang Seng and the Nikkei 225 traded higher by 1.71 per cent at the time of writing.

Wagons Learning IPO Opens For Bidding

The bidding window of Wagons Learning IPO opened today on May 2. The company plans to raise Rs 25.26 crore through  fresh issuance of 30.80 lakh shares and an offer-for-sale of 16.00 lakh shares amounting to Rs 13.12 crore.

Cues To Watch

May 2 marks the tenth day since the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Following the attack, tensions between the two countries have been rising. Notably, Prime Minister Modi also convened multiple high-level cabinet meetings on April 30 and gave the armed Forces full operational freedom.
