Stock Market News: The 30-share Sensex and the Nifty 50 ended the session flat with a negative bias on July 22. The Sensex closed at 82,186.81, down by 13.53 points or 0.02 per cent. The Nifty finished at 25,060.9 down by 29.8 points or 0.12 per cent. The indices ended lower amid a decline in automotive stocks and financial services stocks.

Shriram Finance and Eicher Motors Lead Losers

Shares of Shriram Finance, Eicher Motors and Jio Financial Services shares led the losers on July 22, closing lower by as much as 2.25 per cent on the NSE. Other major losers included Bajaj Auto and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones, as they finished lower by 1.76 per cent and 1.77 per cent, respectively. Amid the declines, shares of Eternal Ltd, HDFC Life Insurance and Hindalco Industries ended the session higher by 10.32 per cent, 1.36 per cent and 1.15 per cent, respectively.

Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma Decline

The market saw broadbased selloffs, among the sectoral indices the Nifty Auto and the Nifty Pharma index witnessed the deepest declines. The Nifty Auto ended the session lower by 0.74 per cent and the Nifty Pharma index finished the session lower by 1 per cent. The broader market indices also ended the session lower on July 22 as the Nifty MidCap 100 and the Nifty SmallCap 100 closed in the red, down by 0.61 per cent and 0.34 per cent, respectively.

Global Markets on July 22

Wall Street indices finished the session mixed on July 21 as the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 44,323.07, down by 19.12 points or 0.04 per cent. On the other hand, the Nasdaq Composite surged to a fresh high and closed at 20,974.18 up by 78.52 points or 0.38 per cent. On July 22, most Asian indices closed the session in the red, with the Nikkei 225 and KOSPI closing lower by 0.11 per cent and 1.29 per cent, respectively. The Shanghai Composite and the Hang Seng ended the session higher by 0.62 per cent and 0.54 per cent, respectively.

Market Cues

Several factors, such as the financial results of companies for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, core infrastructure output, manufacturing and Services, PMI, are also expected to impact D-street in the upcoming week. Global factors like changes in key commodity prices and fresh updates in India-US trade negotiations are also expected to impact market sentiment.
