The Aadhaar mobile application has been downloaded more than 3.1 crore times since its launch less than five months ago, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The authority has also stated that lakhs of users have already used the platform to update personal details and access Aadhaar-related services digitally.
Data released by UIDAI on Monday has shown that nearly 40 lakh users updated their mobile numbers through the application, while around 8.5 lakh people used it to change their addresses.
The Aadhaar App allows residents to carry out various Aadhaar-related tasks directly from their smartphones. In an official statement, UIDAI has stated that the application is being used for updating contact information and other services that traditionally required visits to enrolment or service centres.
According to the authority, the app has crossed 31 million downloads since its rollout, reflecting growing use of digital identity services through mobile devices.
The application includes a range of tools that allow users to access and manage Aadhaar services online. These include downloading e-Aadhaar, checking authentication history and booking appointments at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.
Users can also activate or deactivate biometric locking through a single click. The app offers face verification for identity authentication and proof of presence in eligible services.
Another feature is a QR-based editable contact card, which allows users to share contact details digitally without relying on printed visiting cards.
Beyond Aadhaar updates, the application can be used for a variety of identity verification requirements. UIDAI said users can complete hotel check-ins by scanning the QR code of an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE), removing the need to submit physical Aadhaar photocopies.
The authority added that the app can support hospital admissions, visitor management systems, event entry verification and identity checks for gig workers and service providers.
According to UIDAI, the Aadhaar App is part of ongoing efforts to provide digital access to identity-related services through smartphones, allowing users to complete several verification and document-related tasks without carrying physical records.
