Apple has increased the starting prices of several MacBook and iPad models globally, including in India, as rising semiconductor costs impact the consumer electronics industry.

The latest prices on Apple India's website show increases ranging from around 20 per cent to more than 41 per cent across select devices.

Among the revised products, the 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 Pro chip now starts at Rs 2,99,900, compared to its launch price of Rs 2,49,900. This represents an increase of about 20 per cent.

The increase has been sharper for some iPad models. The base variant of the 13-inch iPad Air is now priced at Rs 1,19,900, up from Rs 84,900 at launch. This marks a rise of 41.22 per cent.

The revised pricing has been reflected in other products in Apple's portfolio, including MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air and iPad Pro Wi-Fi models.

AI Infra Demand Hiked Component Costs

According to the company's statement, the expansion of AI data centres has led to an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage, resulting in sharp increases in component costs.

The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge due to a rapid increase in demand for memory and storage components.

Apple had absorbed these higher costs for several months but has now reached a point where it needs to raise prices on a number of products, including iPads and MacBooks.

The company added that it is continuing to look for ways to address the impact of rising component prices.

Price Pressures Spread Across Electronics Market

Apple stated that price increases have already become widespread across the consumer electronics industry, with many products recording price rises of 40 per cent or more.

According to the company, memory manufacturers are allocating a growing share of production capacity to AI data centres. This has reduced the availability of components for consumer electronics and contributed to rising costs across the sector.

The company said the rapid growth of AI infrastructure has changed demand patterns for key semiconductor components, including memory and storage chips, affecting the supply available for consumer devices.
