Ayushman Yojana: Haryana Private Hospitals To Halt Services For One Day Over Pending Payments

Ayushman Bharat Yojana services are available across states and union territories in over 38,700 hospitals across India as on August 28, 2026. There are 1,310 hospitals empanelled in Haryana to provide healthcare services under the scheme. However, private hospitals among these are set to halt their Ayushman Yojana-related services for one day on September 1, 2026, because they have not received their payments.

The government’s flagship scheme’s services are offered through both public and private hospitals. The hospitals offer treatment and get the reimbursement from the government. The one-day suspension of Ayushman service is related to the delay in getting these payments, as per a report by the Tribune. Private hospitals at empanelled hospitals in Haryana have announced a 24-hour suspension of services under the scheme. A medical professional describes it as their response to the persistent delay in their claim disbursements.    

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Haryana made an official announcement regarding it, expressing its resentment over the pendency of their outstanding claims. They argue that the delay in payments affects the operating capacity of private healthcare providers throughout the region. However, this is a symbolic protest to highlight financial challenges private doctors face due to the late payment by the government.

In a formal letter to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ayushman Bharat-Haryana Health Protection Authority (AB-HHPA), the doctors pointed out that claims have been pending for more than six months, despite the official timelines of 15 days for clearance and settlement of claims. The association stated that the failure of the authority to follow the settlement timeline has pushed the private hospitals into serious financial difficulties. They are resource-constrained, and such a long delay in payments is making it difficult for them to continue offering treatment under the government’s health scheme.

The ongoing financial constraints have already led to operational challenges for the medical facilities. Reportedly, Dr. Sunila Soni, president of IMA Haryana, said that the situation has become severe and one hospital has recently been forced to shut down due to the financial difficulties.

For the last three years, private hospitals have been getting assurance of timely payments, but the issue is persisting due to the lack of a substantial resolution. Soni stated that continued delays could affect the critical healthcare services for the needy beneficiaries who are dependent on the Ayushman Bharat Scheme for their medical needs.

The medical association is set to halt services for only one day for now; however, Soni noted that the association has suspended services on a couple of occasions previously as well, but if the financial issues aren’t resolved, they will have no choice but to suspend the Ayushman Bharat Scheme services permanently.
