What is Baal Aadhaar Card

The Baal Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique identifying number given to children under the age of five by the Unique Identifying Authority of India (UIDAI). The card, which is blue in color, is linked to one of the parents' Aadhaar cards, and no biometric data is required to obtain it for children below five.

Documents Required for Baal Aadhaar

Child's Birth Certificate: It is the main document proving the child's identity and birth. Another option is a hospital discharge slip.

Parent's Aadhaar Card: The parent or guardian is required to provide confirmation of their relationship and identification.

Child's Photograph: The enrolment centre may take the child's photo immediately, but a passport-size photo is required.

If the child is an NRI: A valid Indian passport of the child is mandatory as Proof of Identity (PoI).

How to Apply for Baal Aadhaar

While you can schedule an appointment online using the UIDAI website, but you need to enroll in Baal Aadhaar at the centre in the following way:

  • Visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre with your child and the required documents.

  • Bring the child's birth certificate and one parent's Aadhaar card.

  • The parent whose Aadhaar will be linked must provide their Aadhaar details and biometrics; Only a photograph is required for the child.

  • Complete the Baal Aadhaar application at the center and submit it in with the necessary paperwork. After checking, the originals will be sent returned.

  • You will receive an acknowledgement slip with the enrolment ID, which can be used to track the status of your child's Baal Aadhaar.

When to Update Child Aadhaar Biometrics

The biometric details of children need to be updated in their Aadhaar when the child attains the age of 5 years, and once again at the age of 15 years. The child's fingerprints, iris scans and photographs are captured and updated in their Aadhaar data.
