Beware Of Fake LPG Delivery Messages: LPG Providers Advise Caution On OTP Use

LPG cylinder delivery scams, including fake verification messages and codes, have become a growing concern as fraudsters try to exploit routine delivery processes.

In such cases, the fraudsters usually pose as delivery personnel or send messages resembling the official LPG messages. Consumers are then tricked into giving the Delivery Authentication Code or clicking on dodgy links, thinking it is needed to complete the delivery process. The DAC is a one-time verification code used at the time of cylinder delivery to confirm successful receipt of the booking.

HP Gas Issues Warning On Fake LPG Delivery Messages

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), cautioned consumers about fake LPG delivery messages that may attempt to imitate official communication. The company urged users to verify Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) messages carefully before sharing them at the time of cylinder delivery.

The company has clarified that genuine Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) messages are always sent from the official sender name “VM-HPGASc-S.” These messages include a 4-digit OTP, which is required only at the time of LPG cylinder delivery to confirm successful receipt of the booking, and DACs are never requested over phone calls, WhatsApp messages, or suspicious links.

Users were advised to remain alert in case any message appears unusual, urgent, or different from the standard format, and to share the code only during actual delivery of the cylinder.

Other LPG Providers Also Issue Scam Alert

Other major LPG providers have also issued cautions on their official X (formerly Twitter) accounts, urging consumers to remain cautious of fake delivery-related messages.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited have advised consumers to share the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) or OTP only at the time of LPG cylinder delivery and only with authorised delivery personnel. The companies said the code is meant to confirm successful delivery and help prevent misuse, urging users not to disclose it over calls, messages, or to unknown sources.

Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and avoid sharing any Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) or OTP with unknown callers or unofficial messages. All communication related to LPG delivery should be verified through official channels only, and users should use authorised apps and verified platforms for bookings and updates. By taking a few simple precautions to verify information, you can help protect your personal details from being misused.
