Delhi Metro Hikes Ticket Prices After 8 Years: Here's How Much Your Ride Will Cost Now

This is the first upward revision since 2017, when DMRC raised fares in two phases. At that time, the minimum fare went from Rs 8 to Rs 10, and the maximum doubled from Rs 30 to Rs 60

Increase In Delhi Metro Ticket Fare

Delhi Metro riders will now have to shell out a little more for their daily journeys, with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announcing its first fare hike in eight years. The revised fares came into effect starting Monday, August 25, 2025.

The announcement came on the hike day itself, however the commuters need not to worry too much since the increase is modest. The new fares range between Rs 1 and Rs 4 depending on the distance travelled.

For example, on the Airport Express Line, fares have gone up slightly higher, by Rs 1 to Rs 5. DMRC officials have called this revision “minimal,” pointing out that it was needed to meet rising operational and maintenance costs.

Here's how much the prices have changed:

Under the new structure, the minimum fare for a short hop of up to 2 kilometres now stands at Rs 11, compared to Rs 10 earlier. A trip in the longest slab, over 32 kilometres, will cost Rs 64, up from Rs 60 on regular weekdays. On Sundays and national holidays, the maximum fare has also moved up, with journeys above 32 km now costing Rs 54, against the earlier Rs 50.

The increase is similar for mid-range travel. For a ride between 12 and 21 km, commuters will now pay Rs 43, up from Rs 40 earlier. For a ride between 21 and 33 km, the new fare is Rs 54, up from Rs 50.

Metro fare hike after a long time

This is the first upward revision since 2017, when DMRC raised fares in two phases. At that time, the minimum fare went from Rs 8 to Rs 10, and the maximum doubled from Rs 30 to Rs 60, which then sparked criticism from commuters and policymakers.

However, since that time, despite inflationary pressures, and other operation costs like that related to electricity and network expansion, the corporation had kept its fares unchanged. The corporation has long been dependent on non-fare revenue sources like advertising and property rentals to meet operational costs.

When did DMRC service begin?

The Delhi metro service started in 2002 and has since become an affordable as well as one of the most used modes of transport for the public commute of citizens in the national capital. It carries millions of passengers daily.

Authorities maintain that the latest hike, while small, is important to keep service quality and safety standards intact, and to support further expansion of the network.
