Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana: Housing Aid Scheme Launched For OBC Beneficiaries In Maharashtra

The Maharashtra state government, while presenting the 2023-24 budget, had announced the introduction of Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana, which envisaged the creation of 1 million houses for the other backward category (OBC) residents of Maharashtra within three years of the introduction of the scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred first instalment of Rs 375 crore towards initiating construction of houses for 250,000 beneficiaries within the state. Beneficiaries who weren’t covered under Awaas Plus Yojana will be eligible under this scheme. 

The government is offering a subsidy of Rs 1.20 lakh to beneficiaries for the construction of new houses or converting their kacchha houses into pacca houses, provided they have 269 sq. ft. of area, and the funds will be credited to their bank account. 

Eligibility Under Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana 

The beneficiaries must be OBC and must be residents of Maharashtra for at least 15 years. The annual income must not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh and they should not have a pacca house in the state owned either by them or their family. Beneficiaries must have their own land or any parcel of land provided by the state government, or, the house can be built in situ at the place where the kacchha house is situated. The beneficiary family must not have been a beneficiary of any other home loan scheme within the state either. In that case, they will not be eligible for the scheme.

Documents Required To Apply for Modi Awaas Gharkul 

To apply for the yojana, beneficiaries must submit a Satbara copy (proof of land ownership), a property register transcript, or a gram panchayat certificate that has been attested, and a copy of caste certificate issued by the competent authority. 

Required documents also include an Aadhaar card, ration card, voter identity card, electricity bill, MGNREGA job card, savings account in the beneficiary’s name, and a photocopy of the passbook. 

Selection Of Beneficiaries 

Gram panchayats would be in charge of choosing beneficiaries under the scheme. When selecting eligible beneficiaries, the gram sabha will prioritise widows, abandoned women, family heads, victims of flood-affected areas, people whose houses have been damaged (fire and other vandalism) as a result of communal riots, people affected by natural disasters, and people with disabilities, among others.
