The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) scheme is one of the government’s income-support schemes especially made for farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal quarterly instalments of Rs 2,000. This amount is directly transferred into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. The 22nd instalment is expected early in 2026. The government has introduced a compliance that farmers must understand and follow in order to receive the future payments. PM-KISAN payments are generally released every four months. The 21st payment was released in November 2025. The 22nd instalment is expected to be released in February-March of 2026.
The biggest update is that the Farmer ID is now being made mandatory for receiving the next instalment of Rs 2,000. The government has linked the benefits of PM KISAN with a unique Farmer ID system. This is a part of the Farmer’s registry and AgriStack initiative. Beneficiaries who are not registered under this ID may face delays or may not receive the 22nd instalment and the payments after that.
This change is aimed at ensuring that financial assistance reaches the genuine landholding farmers. By creating this verified national database, the government intends to eliminate beneficiaries who are defrauding, duplicating, and availing unfair benefits. This step is in order to improve transparency in the distribution of this subsidy.
The Farmer ID is a part of a wider initiative to digitise agricultural records across the country. It will help verify land ownership, along with confirming farmer identity. With a unified database, authorities can ensure that benefits are delivered faster and more accurately.
The compulsion of Farmer ID does not mean that other mandatory steps will not be in the process anymore. E-KYC continues to be a mandatory process for all PM-KISAN beneficiaries. Farmers who have not completed this process will also face delays or stoppages in the instalment transactions.
Farmers can complete the e-KYC process online by visiting the PM-KISAN website, following up with providing the Aadhaar details, registered mobile number, and the OTP verification. This process only takes a few minutes, but it is essential to keep the process active for the beneficiaries.
In order to benefit from this scheme, one must register diligently. It is crucial for farmers to complete the e-KYC; otherwise, the instalments can be delayed.
Here is how you can register yourself,
Visit the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi website and navigate to the KYC section.
Enter your Aadhar number and registered mobile number.
Submit after verification with OTP.
If one does not receive the amount, they can reach out to the helpline number. These channels are operational 24/7 to provide assistance.
The upcoming PM-KISAN instalment is quite significant for the farmers as this amount not only helps them in their agricultural produce, but also helps them ease out their sustenance. With the step of making Farmer ID and e-KYC compulsory, the government focuses on making sure the government funds reach the right and eligible farmers.
