Delay in 22nd instalment as government cleaning up beneficiaries list
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) scheme provides farmers with an income subsistence of Rs. 6,000 annually. Farmers are eagerly waiting for the announcement of the 22nd date of instalment, where each farmer family with landholding is eligible for Rs. 2,000 from the central government. Based on past trends, the government is likely to announce the next tranche of the direct transfer benefit (DBT) in the first or second week of March.
The DBT scheme provides subsistence to farmer families Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal tranches. So far, 21 instalments have been paid to beneficiaries since the launch of the scheme in 2019. The Centre typically credits the instalment for the December to March period. However, this year, there has been a delay in the announcement of the instalment.
The primary reason for the delay in crediting the instalment is an apparent large-scale re-verification drive by the government. The government has intensified scrutiny to ensure that only genuine and eligible farmers are given the benefits of the scheme.
According to multiple reports, several lakhs of names have been removed by the government in recent rounds of verification in an attempt to clean up the database of beneficiaries. Ineligible farmers or cases where many farmers were receiving multiple credits were removed. During the 21st instalment, around 70 lakh names were reported to have been removed as ineligible beneficiaries.
Reasons such as incomplete KYC or duplicate entries within the same farmer family could lead to removal from the PM-Kisan beneficiaries list. If there is any mismatch in land ownership or the records are not linked, it could also result in a name removal. If one claims benefits on income tax wrongly, or documents like Aadhaar are not linked with the bank account, it could also lead to a removal from the beneficiaries list.
In order to get the benefits under the PM-Kisan scheme when the 22nd instalment date is announced, farmers must ensure certain processes are complete.
E-KYC: This is a mandatory process to receive benefits. This can be done online by receiving an OTP on the PM-Kisan portal through face authentication or offline biometric verification at a Common Service Centre (CSC)
Updating land records: Land records must be updated correctly and verified by state authorities. If this is not done, visit the local Tehsildar or Block Agriculture Office with land documents like Khasra or Khatauni.
Aadhaar-Bank Link: The bank account where you wish to receive the DBT must be linked with your Aadhaar to receive the benefits.
