The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) scheme is a flagship government income-support scheme especially made for farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal quarterly instalments of Rs 2,000 each. This amount is directly transferred into their bank accounts through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) system. The 22nd instalment is expected early in 2026. The government has introduced a compliance that farmers must understand and follow in order to receive future payments under the scheme. PM-KISAN payments are generally released every four months. The 21st payment was released in November 2025. The 22nd instalment is expected to be released around the end of March, 2026.

Farmer ID Now Mandatory for PM Kisan Payment

The biggest update is that Farmer ID is now being made mandatory for receiving the next instalment of Rs 2,000. The government has linked the benefits of PM KISAN with a unique Farmer ID system. This is a part of the Farmer’s registry and AgriStack initiative. Beneficiaries who are not registered under this ID may face delays or may not receive the 22nd instalment and the payments after that.

This change has been initiated to ensure that financial assistance reaches the genuine landholding farmers. By creating this verified national database, the government intends to eliminate beneficiaries who are defrauding or duplicating the system, and availing of unfair benefits. This step aims to improve transparency in the distribution of this subsidy.

The Farmer ID is also a part of a wider initiative to digitise agricultural records across the country. It will help verify land ownership, along with confirming farmer identity. With a unified database, authorities can ensure that benefits are delivered faster and more accurately.

What Happens To The e-KYC System?

The compulsory implementation of Farmer ID, however, does not mean that other mandatory steps will not be in the process anymore. The e-know-your-customer (e-KYC) norms will continue to be a mandatory process for all PM-KISAN beneficiaries. Farmers who have not completed this process will also face delays or stoppages in the instalment transactions.

Farmers can complete the e-KYC process online by visiting the PM-KISAN website, and register using their Aadhaar details and OTP verification received on their registered mobile number. This process only takes a few minutes but is essential to keep the process active for the beneficiaries.

How To Receive And Check The Status?

In order to benefit from this scheme, one must register diligently. It is crucial for farmers to complete the e-KYC process, or else the instalments can be delayed.

Here is how you can register yourself

  1. Visit the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi website and navigate to the KYC section

  2. Enter your Aadhaar number and registered mobile number

  3. Submit after verification with the OTP received on your mobile.

If one does not receive the amount, they can reach out to the helpline number. These channels are operational 24X7.

With farmers depending on these funds to help with agricultural inputs, household needs, and seasonal expenses, completing these requirements on time is essential to ensure that financial support reaches them without any hiccups by the expected release period in March 2026.
