PMIS: PM Internship Scheme Deadline Extended; Check The New Date

Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme, which was launched by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Union Budget 2024-25 tabled on July 23, 2024. This program initially targeted 1.25 lakh internships, but the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has planned to extend this program to more youth, gradually providing one crore internships in the next five years. 

Application for the second phase of the program is already ongoing, but the deadline to submit the applications was fixed as March 31, 2025. The new deadline for applications has been extended to April 15, 2025. 

However, the shortlisting and selection process for certain internships offered under this scheme has already commenced, from April 1, 2025. The applicants are requested to keep an eye on their designated dashboards, emails and text messages on their registered contact numbers. Even though the new applicants, who are applying after the previous deadline, might miss some of the opportunities—for which the process has already started, new applicants have the chance to regain the missed opportunity.

For those who might be facing problems receiving updates through emails or text messages, they might consider logging in to the account (or visit https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/ to access the account) and check the selection status on the dashboard. 

The pilot project of this scheme began in the Financial Year 2024-25, encompassing 730 districts throughout the country. Under PMIS, the youth can complete their internships in 24 sectors, including oil, gas, travel, hospitality, energy, banking and many more. The participating companies were chosen based on their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) spending over the past 3 years so that the youth are placed in organisations that are ethically and socially responsible. 

The pilot phase provided internships to 1.25 lakh youth in the top 500 companies spanning 24 sectors. The applicants must be aged between 21 to 24 years, but there are specific relaxations for applicants belonging to the OBC, SC and ST category. The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree from any UGC or AICTE-recognised university. In the case of a diploma, the applicant should have attained the intermediate degree along with a diploma from an AICTE-recognised institution. Students with an ITI degree in relevant trade. 

Another eligibility of this scheme is, that the applicants need not be enrolled in any full-time educational program. They also must not hold any full-time job and no member of their family members should be employed in any government job. The applicant's annual family income should not exceed Rs 8 lakh. 

The youth will be provided a Rs 5,000 stipend every month during the internship period and a one-time payment of Rs 6,000. Also, no applicants, who are to register online, are to pay any registration fee. The duration of the internship is three months anywhere in India. 

Almost 1,234 people from Uttar Pradesh received internships, making it the top state on the list. Assam comes next on the list with 994 youth receiving internships. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha are next in the list with 715, 693 and 467 youth receiving the opportunity, respectively.
