Angikaar 2025 Campaign: When the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, rolled out Angikaar 2025 in New Delhi on September 4th 2025, it was clear that Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) has made much progress, but there is unfinished work that needs to be done with urgency. India's housing vision has promised Housing for All, but delivery gaps persist. This campaign aims to drive the program ahead, bridge those gaps, and ensure sanctioned houses become real homes.

What is Angikaar 2025?

As part of Angikaar 2025, a 2-month outreach program will run between September 4th and October 31st 2025. It covers 5,000-plus Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and has four overall priorities:

Awareness Creation – Door-to-door consultations, events, and mobilisation to inform beneficiaries about the PMAY-U 2.0 benefit.

A fast-track process for applications and construction - clearing pending verifications and expediting ongoing housing projects.

Bringing families together with PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and CRGFTLIH for solar energy and simplified housing finance.

Prioritisation of Vulnerable Sections – Prioritising sanitation workers, craftsmen, and poor families.

It is both a clean-up operation of lapsed targets and a force multiplier for fresh ones.

PMAY-U Progress and the Urgency to Speed

Under PMAY-U, 1.20 crore houses have been approved and 94.11 lakh have been completed. However, over 20 lakh homes are incomplete. Angikaar 2025 plans to finish these off and add one crore more families under PMAY-U 2.0 for which each is eligible up to Rs 2.5 lakh support.

Housing numbers are important, but so is credibility. If approved homes are left on files or building sites, the mission stands to lose people's trust. Angikaar 2025 directly tackles this risk by forcing last-mile execution.

Public Engagement

The campaign is designed to be visible and participatory:

PMAY-U Awas Diwas on September 17th 2025, will mark one year of PMAY-U 2.0.

As part of PM Awas Mela - Shehri, scheduled between September 17th and 20th, 2025, applications will be supported, loans will be facilitated, exhibitions will take place, and there will be cultural programs.

During both events, the idea of housing as a collective project will be reinforced under Jan Bhagidari (public participation).

Clear Objectives

Angikaar 2025 has set measurable goals:Complete 20 lakh pending houses.Extend solar power under PM Surya Ghar to completed units.Celebrate Grih Pravesh for newly built homes.Reach out to unserved but eligible groups under PMAY-U 2.0.Disseminate information on PMAY-U components BLC, AHP, and ISSR, emphasising the rental housing vertical.
