UP CM Yogi Adityanath Proposes Increase In Property Registration Fee Rebate For Women

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, May 12, called for a significant policy shift aimed at empowering women and easing property-related disputes in Uttar Pradesh. In a high-level review meeting of the stamp and registration department, he proposed raising the current property registration rebate for women from a maximum of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore, as per a report by ETRealty.

Adityanath instructed officials to bring consistency to the determination of circle rates, the government-assessed property values used to calculate duties. “The rate determination should consider development, urbanisation and infrastructure progress,” he noted. He also emphasised the need for document verification and land ownership checks prior to registration to curb disputes, as per the report.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of simplifying the registration process by leveraging digital tools. "It is also must to simplify the registration process and maximise the use of technology to save time and resources," he said, as quoted in the report.

According to officials, stamp sales have tripled since 2016-17, growing from Rs 11,000 crore to over Rs 30,000 crore in 2024-25. The department reported an 11.67 per cent increase in revenue over the past financial year. Circle rates have already been updated in 45 districts, with revisions underway in the remaining 30, the report added.
