Disability Pension: Here's What You Need To Know

Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS)

This scheme was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development with the main objective of supporting disabled people to live their lives with dignity.

The scheme includes Rs 300 per month to beneficiaries between 18 and 79 years and Rs 500 to people aged 80 years and above.

Eligibility

People who have physical as well as mental disability and belong to the ‘below poverty line (BPL)’. Dwarfs are also eligible for the scheme.

Process of applying

To apply online, one needs to visit the UMANG app or its official website and log in with a mobile number. In the NSAP tab, one should click ‘Apply Online’, fill in personal details, upload a photo, select mode of pension and submit.

Offline

To apply offline, one has to submit the application form to the Gram Panchayat or the Block Office. The application is then approved by the authorities to establish the disability level after discussion with the state-designated area sabhas. Then, the Sanctioning Authority decides to accept or reject the application.
