Delhi Government Starts Ayushman Vans: Here’s How Beneficiaries, Seniors Can Benefit

The Delhi government flagged off Ayushman Bharat vans and also appointed 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff on July 6, 2025, a little after three months of launching the Ayushman Bharat Scheme on April 10, 2025, soon after coming to power in the Delhi Assembly elections. 

While the recruited staff will help provide services at different healthcare facilities, Ayushman vans are aimed at bringing healthcare closer to the beneficiary residents of Delhi. Union Health Minister JP Nadda distributed the appointment letters and flagged off the vans. He said: “Today is a historic day. Appointment letters are being given to more than 1,200 nursing officers simultaneously.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on the occasion, “As soon as we took oath on February 20, we implemented the ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’ in Delhi. With the resolve to ensure that the benefits of this scheme reach as many people as possible, more than 4 lakh (400,000) Delhiites have been registered and linked to the scheme so far. And now, ‘Ayushman Bharat Registration Vans’ have been launched which will go to every corner, every street, every colony of Delhi and provide the right to free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh to eligible residents.”

Under the plan of action, the vans will reach out to the people in different areas across Delhi, and help applicants register as well as provide free healthcare under the scheme.

According to the Delhi government, more than 400,000 registrations have already been done in Delhi since the launch of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital. The scheme offers Rs 5 lakh health insurance benefit to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 (SECC 2011) list to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their economic background.

However, to make the registration under the scheme more convenient for beneficiaries, especially senior citizens, the government has now started the Ayushman Bharat Registration vans.

 “These vans will not only become a powerful medium for the expansion of this scheme but will also work to connect the needy citizens with the right to health security,” said Gupta.

Earlier in May this year, the government also announced to start Mobile Awareness Van to offer Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy treatment (AYUSH) consultation to residents of Delhi living in Jhuggi Jhopdi (JJ) clusters and slums. The purpose of these vans is to raise healthcare awareness and outreach to the densely populated areas in the city and also give a push to the Ayush treatments.

The adoption of the Ayushman scheme in Delhi would benefit around 3.6 million people, including senior citizens above 70, according to government estimates. There are 108 hospitals enrolled under the scheme in Delhi and more than 2,200 patients have already received treatment since its launch.
