ChatGPT Go Free For A Year: How To Claim The Offer In India

OpenAI has rolled out ChatGPT Go, a new free plan offering eligible ChatGPT users in India 12 months of access to faster and more capable version.

The ChatGPT Go plan provides extended access to GPT-5, image generation, file uploads, advanced data analysis as well as longer memory for more personalised chats. It also includes access to projects, tasks, and custom GPTs. These features were earlier part of paid plans at rentals of Rs 399 per month.

Who Can Access ChatGPT Go

The free offer for ChatGPT Go is available in India for new users, existing free-tier users and current ChatGPT Go subscribers. It can be activated through the Web platform or the Android app. The promotion is being offered for a limited time.

Users already subscribed to other ChatGPT plans, including Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise, must first cancel their active subscriptions and wait for their current billing period to end before becoming eligible for the ChatGPT Go offer.

How To Redeem the ChatGPT Go Offer

You can activate the free ChatGPT Go plan from the Web or the Android app.

1. Start by opening ChatGPT on a browser or through the Android app.

2. Sign in from your existing account or log in by creating a new account.

3. Go to Settings and open the Subscription section.

4. Choose the ‘Try Go’ or ‘Upgrade for Free’ option when the offer prompt appears.

5. Enter valid payment details to proceed with activation.

6. If asked, complete the verification procedures by entering OTP.

What to Know Before Activating ChatGPT Go

Users must add a valid payment method, such as a credit card or Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for redeeming ChatGPT Go. No fee will be charged during the 12-month free period, but the regular subscription price will apply automatically once it ends unless cancelled in advance. The promotion can be used only once per account. For UPI users, a temporary fee of Re 1 may appear during billing, which will be reversed later.

The offer can currently be redeemed through the ChatGPT Web platform or the Android app, while availability for Apple users is expected next week. Those with existing subscriptions on the Apple App Store must first cancel their current plan and wait for the billing cycle to end before redeeming the offer once it becomes available.

OpenAI on Making ChatGPT Go Free in India

Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT at OpenAI told PTI, “Since initially launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we have seen from our users has been inspiring.”

He added, “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”
