  • Assam CM launched cashless treatment options under AA-MMLSAY.

  • Beneficiary count can go up to 7-8 lakh people.

The Assam government has introduced a healthcare scheme with cashless treatment options. Under the Ayushman Asom Mukhya Mantri Lok Sevak Arogya Yojana (AA-MMLSAY), benefiting lakhs of employees, pensioners, and their dependents. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a new feature on October 29th, 2025, marking a major expansion in the existing scheme. Until now, the scheme, launched in 2023, has only offered healthcare reimbursement.

With this new amendment to this scheme, the registered people can now access cashless medical treatment. This is not just limited to hospitals in Assam but also to top hospitals across India. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that employees and pensioners can now receive their treatments without worrying about arranging immediate funds. Adding to this, he said that the government would continue to reimburse alongside the new feature of cashless treatments.

This scheme was launched in October 2023 and saw registrations of more than 2 lakh employees and almost 6 thousand pensioners. The CM has urged more eligible individuals to register and avail benefits of this scheme. To make it even more convenient the process of registration remains open indefinitely. This scheme was introduced to make sure that State employees stay at parity with the Central government counterparts.

Whenever the centre revises the Central Government Health Scheme rates, the state revises theirs immediately.

This scheme is similar to the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana model, except that Assam has made MMLSAY a self-sustaining model entirely funded by contributions made by government employees. As per CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, this scheme ensures financial independence and sustainability. Ever since the scheme came into effect, the government has reimbursed employees and pensioners about Rs 65 crore.

The CM has estimated that the present number of beneficiaries could go up to 7-8 lakh people. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing this benefit to its employees and past employees so that they can avail of correct and timely treatment. He also promised smoother and wider access in the coming years. Through this scheme, the government aims to ensure that state employees get the same benefits and perks as central government employees and to bridge the gap between the two.

This introduction of a cashless facility in the scheme ensures a major step forward in reforming Assam's healthcare systems for the people's good. This framework provides convenience, efficiency, and financial transparency.
