PFC is a specialised institution for power sector financing providing fund and non fundbased support for development of power projects. The projects are primarily focused on the thermal and hydro-energy generation areas. PFC has also initiated financing of projects based on renewable energy sources. The company is ranked 5th highest profit making CPSE among 298 CPSEs in the country as per DPE survey, 2016. It is actively involved in the implementation of UDAY scheme for the turnaround of DISCOMs. The government’s focus to achieve 100 per cent village electrification by May 2018 and setting up of smart cities and affordable housing augur well for the company.
