PAN Card Scam: How To Stay Safe

Recently, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) customers have been targeted with spam messages claiming their bank accounts will be blocked unless they update their PAN card information. These deceptive messages include links requesting for personal details.

The Press Information Bureau Fact Check team has identified this as a scam and has cautioned the public. PIB has stated that the claim is entirely false and has informed the public that India Post Payments Bank does not send these kinds of messages.

How to stay protected

Malicious Links: In order to stay safe, one needs to stay away from suspicious links. One should never click on any link or share personal information upon receiving unsolicited messages. No legitimate institution, such as IPPB, will ever ask for sensitive information through unsolicited messages.

Verify The Source: 

If one receives any suspicious message, contact the institution through official channels to verify the authenticity of the message. Do not provide your contact information as a reply to such messages.

Monitor Accounts:

One should periodically check bank statements and account activity for suspicious transactions. Any inconsistencies should be promptly reported to your bank.

Other ways to stay safe from such frauds include not sharing personal information and being informed and updated about such frauds.
