Stock Market Cues: US GDP Data, Gold and Silver Price Today And Other Factors Set To Affect Trade Today

Stock Market News: On December 24, the headline indices are likely to begin the session on a positive note. The Gift Nifty also traded marginally higher, indicating a positive start for the benchmark indices.

On December 23, the headline indices finished flat. The BSE Sensex finished the session with a decline of 42.64 points or 0.05 per cent at 85,524.84 levels. The Nifty 50 closed at 26,177.15 up by 4.75 points or 0.02 per cent.

Stock Market Cues For Today

On December 24, the release of US GDP data, surges in gold and silver prices, crude oil prices, foreign institutional investor (FII) flows are set to impact investor sentiment on D-street:

US GDP Data

On December 23, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released its initial estimate for the third quarter GDP data for 2025. The estimate outperformed expectations as it surged to 4.3 per cent marking the fastest growth rate in two years. The Second Estimate for Q3 2025 is expected to be released on January 22, 2026. Typically, robust U.S. demand provides a buffer for Indian companies in the IT, pharma and engineering sectors.

Crude Oil Prices Today

On December 24, crude oil prices traded marginally higher as the price of West Texas Intermediate crude traded was around $58.39 up by $0.03 or 0.05 per cent. The price of Brent Crude was around $62.4 up by $0.02 or 0.05 per cent in the early hours of the day.

Gold Prices On December 24

Physical gold prices edged upwards in the early hours of December 24 as the price of 24 karat gold was Rs 13,856 per gram, the price of 22 karat purity gold was around Rs 12,701 per gram and the price of 18 karat gold was around Rs 10,392 per gram.

Silver Price Skyrockets

Spot silver prices surged to record highs on December 23, crossing the $70 per troy ounce mark for the first time. Physical silver prices also traded higher at Rs 2,23,100 per kilogram up by Rs 100.

FII Flows

FIIs turned  net sellers of Indian equities on December 23 selling Indian equities worth Rs 1,794.8 crore. On the other hand, Domestic Institutional Investors continued to remain net buyers purchasing Indian equities worth Rs 3,812.37 crore.

Asian Indices Trade Mixed

On December 24, major Asian indices traded higher, the Nikkei 225 and the Hang Seng gained 0.12 per cent and 0.14 per cent respectively. On the other hand the KOSPI and the Shanghai Composite index traded with gains of 0.11 per cent and 0.24 per cent respectively.

US Markets

US market indices closed the session with gains on December 23. Wall Street indices gained following the release of the US GDP estimate. The Nasdaq Composite closed with gains of 0.57 per cent. On the other hand, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed higher by 0.57 per cent and 0.46 per cent respectively.
