4 Women Welfare Initiative Launched In Delhi Ahead Of Women’s Day: Saheli Pink Card To Lakhpati Bitiya, Check Benefits

The Delhi government has brought four schemes for Delhi women ahead of Women’s Day on March 8. The schemes ensure women's welfare through these schemes, ranging from financial benefits to ease of running a household and travel. Launched by President Draupadi Murmu, these schemes are aimed at providing women with safety, security, and financial empowerment.

Here are the details of these four schemes:

Saheli Pink Smart Pink Card

This is a mobility card for women riders to provide them with ease of mobility through free and safe transport. The Saheli Pink card will be issued under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework. It will provide free rides to women in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses. The card would offer better transparency, tracking, and ease of travel without needing to carry cash. Further, plans are that the same card could be used for the metro rides, too. The integration will make travelling convenient via any transport mode without the need to buy tickets separately.

One can apply for the card after submitting the required documents offline or online. The entities or portals expected to receive the applications include certain designated DTC depots and facilitation centres, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) website, and the Delhi government transport portal.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

Under this scheme, money will be directly transferred to the eligible women in their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The government plans to transfer Rs 130 crore under this scheme on festivals, such as Holi and Diwali.

Ladli Scheme Disbursement

Under the ‘Meri Poonji, Mera Adhikar’ initiative, the Delhi government will transfer pending funds under the Delhi Ladli scheme, a scheme running since 2008 for girl child education. There are around 1.75 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme, and approximately Rs 90 crore has been transferred to 30,000 girls in the first phase. In the second phase, Rs 100 crore is planned to be transferred to 40,000 girls directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.

Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana

Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is the upgraded version of the Ladli scheme, launched this year to become effective from April 1, 2026. This scheme is to provide financial relief to a girl from birth to the time she graduates. The government will deposit Rs 61,000 at the time of birth of a girl child. The money will earn interest and be returned when the girl completes her graduation. The invested money is projected to become approximately Rs 1.25 lakh at the time of withdrawal. The government has allocated Rs 128 crore for this. The scheme is fully digital and will cover the girl child living in child care institutions.
