The Indian healthcare landscape is to experience a significant digital shift as the government prepares to launch a cloud-based Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). The system will be specifically launched for small clinics, with outpatient department (OPD) patients. The Union Health Minister J P Nadda is set to launch the software "e-Sushrut clinic" on Monday, June 29, 2026, with the aim of bridging the gap between high-tech urban hospitals and primary health centres across the nation's medical network.

What Is The e-Sushrut Clinic Platform?

The e-Sushrut platform aims to address the issues small clinics and primary health centres face that hinder their efficiency and data management. According to the PTI report, they can’t afford the existing hospital management software due to its high cost and thus depend on time-consuming, less effective manual processes.

The new platform, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), provides a simple-to-operate platform that requires minimal technical expertise from its users. It is lightweight, but offers a robust range of tools to automate routine operations, such as patient registration, billing, management information system (MIS) reporting, etc. Besides, it has integrated features, such as speech-to-text documentation, clinical decision support systems, and more, to make the processes more convenient. These two components are also parts of the larger Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

This software is aimed at targeting a diverse range of facilities, including primary health centres, health and wellness centres, sub-centres, and private OPD facilities.

How Will The New Platform Work?

The National Health Authority (NHA) and C-DAC are entering into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch and implement the software services. Under the agreement, NHA will provide financial and operational support for the platform’s expansion, including bearing the expenses related to cloud hosting, SMS notifications to patients about ABDM services, and other such updates. C-DAC, on the other hand, will look after the software maintenance and upgrades. Notably, for customer support, NHA will extend its customer care services, whereas C-DAC will monitor the service quality and train the call centre personnel.

Reportedly, the official data reveals that over 800 health facilities have already onboarded the platform, generating more than 680 records to date.

To ensure professional accountability, only healthcare professionals who are registered under the Health Professional Registry (HPR) will be authorised to use the platform, and once they register, the onboarding process itself integrates with both the HPR and the health facility registry (HFR).

To address the affordability concerns, the software is priced at Rs 499 per month for up to five years. But this is further lowered by Rs 200 to effectively be a Rs 299 monthly subscription, through the NHA-C-DAC partnership. To encourage the transition from manual to digital, the platform will be offered for the first three months. During this period, small clinics, primary health centres, etc., can check the facility and get accustomed to using it for free.

Initially, the services would be offered for five staff access; however, if more staff access is required later, it can be taken by paying an additional Rs 50 per user per month. C-DAC plans to implement this e-Shushrut software on a full scale across AIIMS and various state government hospitals.
