EPFO Services To Resume From July 2, System Downtime Extended By One Day

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended its software downtime for upgradation by one day. The member and employer portal and services will thus remain suspended on July 1 and will resume on July 2, 2026. “To enhance service delivery, improve processing efficiency, and provide a better user experience, EPFO is undertaking a planned database consolidation and upgradation of software applications for the Claims Processing System,” shows EPFO’s unified portal.

Per the notice, the services are expected to be restored at 00:00 hours on July 2.

Earlier, the regulator announced a downtime only on June 28, and then extended it to June 30 and now to July 1. However, this is not a technical glitch but part of its data consolidation and software upgradation exercise, which may even be used for EPFO’s 3.0 version to provide faster and digitally secure services and transparent operations.

EPFO has nearly eight crore members. Its portals are often slow, possibly due to high traffic, and the customer care number is seldom answered.

The upgradation has coincidentally come when subscribers are waiting for their annual interest credit and eagerly check their passbook. But due to the shutdown period, you may not be able to do so on the portal or even on the UMANG app. The app’s services are also expected to be available from July 2, 2026.  

EFO had already confirmed that online services that are usually available on the portal will not be available during the transition phase, which was to end today, but has been extended by one day.

According to the EPFO notice, until the services are resumed, subscribers will not be able to submit any new withdrawal claims or track their existing claims. The Passbook feature will also not work during this upgradation period, and thus, subscribers cannot view or download their passbook transactions, register a grievance, search for information, or check Jeevan Pramaan certificate services until the system is restored.

However, one may call customer care at #14470 to get account-related information, while other modes of accessing EPF account information undergo maintenance or upgradation.

July is a crucial month for EPF subscribers as interest credit is expected to start this month. Besides this, one of the most awaited features, that is, ATM and UPI-led withdrawal of EPF funds, may also be launched soon, under which subscriber would be required to transfer money from their EPF account to their bank account and then withdraw it through ATM or UPI.

So, this time, the portals are down, but the downtime is part of the upgrade, so the wait will be worth it.
