The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. The revised rate will apply from January 2026. Pensioners will also receive a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Relief (DR), effective July 2026.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the decision on October 30, 2026. The revised allowance will increase monthly payments for serving employees, while retired personnel will receive higher pension-related relief.
State government employees will receive arrears for the nine-month period between January and September 2026. The government will clear the pending amount in three equal monthly instalments.
The increased DA will be paid in cash with the October salary, which employees are scheduled to receive in November. The payment will include the revised allowance and the applicable arrears instalment.
For employees, this means the 2 per cent increase will be calculated from January, even though the revised amount will be paid later. The three instalments will cover the pending DA for the first nine months of 2026.
The state government has also approved a 2 per cent increase in DR for pensioners. Unlike the employee DA revision, which takes effect from January, the pensioners’ revised DR will apply from July 2026. The announcement covers both serving employees and retired personnel, with different effective dates for the two categories.
The Madhya Pradesh announcement comes after the Union Cabinet approved a 3 per cent increase in DA for central government employees and DR for pensioners on October 28, 2026.
With this revision, the DA and DR rates for central government beneficiaries have increased from 60 per cent to 63 per cent of Basic Pay and Pension, respectively. The revised rates apply from July 1, 2026. According to the Centre, the additional annual financial burden will be around Rs 10,016.10 crore.
The central government’s DA revision follows the formula linked to the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
Both announcements involve changes to inflation-linked payments for government employees and pensioners. However, the effective dates and percentage increases differ between the Madhya Pradesh government and the Centre.
