UIDAI’s New Rules For Aadhaar Enrolment and Updation: All You Need To Know

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the rules for Aadhaar card enrollment and update have been amended. In this regard, it has revised the forms applicable to both resident and non-resident Indians (NRIs). The 12-digit unique Aadhaar number can now be updated online and offline, as per its notification on January 16. Online and Offline Updation: 

The changes allow updating details online (website or mobile application) and offline mode (Aadhaar enrolment centres), making it accessible for people with various preferences. Earlier, only address updation was allowed through the online mode. 

Revised Forms: 

UIDAI has revised the old forms to make them more user-friendly. Let us explore the forms and their purposes. 

Form 1 is for Aadhaar's enrollment and update. Anybody aged 18 years and above, resident or non-resident Indian (NRI), who has an Indian address proof) can use this form to apply for an Aadhaar number. The same form can also be used to update details in Aadhaar. 

Form 2 is for the NRIs, who have their proof of address outside India. They will need it for enrollment and update. 

Forms 3 to 6 are for the children.  

Enrolment and updation for Children (Five to less than seven years): 

Form 3 is for children five years to under 18 years old, whether resident Indians or NRI, with an Indian address proof. 

Form 4 is for NRI children with the same criteria as Form 3 but who do not have Indian address proof. 

Enrolment and updation for Children (Below five years): 

Form 5 is for resident Indian children aged below five years who have Indian address proof.  

Form 6 is for NRI children below five years who have proof of address outside India. 

Resident foreign national:  

Form 7 is for resident foreign nationals. They have to be more than 18 years of age to enrol and update their Aadhaar card. Their documentation includes a foreign passport, OCI card, valid long-term Indian visa, and an email ID. 

Form 8 is for resident foreign nationals under 18 for enrollment and details update. 

Form 9 is for cancelling an Aadhaar number upon attaining the age of 18. 

Updation of information: 

Aadhaar, being a unique identity proof, needs to remain updated. The Aadhaar holders must update their details every 10 years from the date of creation of the Aadhaar number.  

The updates can be done online on the UIDAI website, through the UIDAI mobile application, or offline by submitting the form to the nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre. 

With the new rules, UIDAI aims to facilitate easier updating of details through any mode to keep the Aadhaar numbers updated. 

Early this week, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) removed the requirement for Aadhaar for proof of date of birth, saying its primary purpose is ID proof and not for date of birth verification as per the Aadhaar Act, 2016.
