Priya Kapur Seeks Delhi HC Nod To Use Late Sunjay Kapur’s EPF Funds For School Fees Of Karishma Kapoor’s Children

The late Sunjay Kapur’s estate-related legal battle is ongoing among family members. However, it took a new turn on May 26, 2026, when the Delhi High Court issued a formal notice following an application by Priya Kapur, who sought a partial modification in an interim injunction order passed on April 30, 2026, restricting liquidation or dissipation of late Kapur’s estate till the legal dispute is ongoing. Priya Kapur sought urgent access to Sanjay Kapur’s Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) accounts to cover the school fees and educational expenses for Samaira and Kiaan, Sunjay Kapur's children from his former marriage to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor.  

Notably, the injunction order in April had effectively frozen the personal and corporate assets of Sunjay, which are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 30,000 crore. While the earlier order prevented the liquidation and dissipation of assets, Priya Kapur, through the latest application, sought clarification on access to funds for a specific purpose of education.

Although the court, in its April order, left a limited scope for addressing essential obligations pertaining to the children, this new application sought clarification and a formal order on the matter. 

Her legal team argued that the financial support for children’s education must continue uninterrupted. Her application sought modification in clauses (b) and (d) of paragraph 79 of the interim order. The legal representatives clarified that the requested withdrawal from the provident fund would be used only for educational purposes.

As the Delhi high court moves forward with this specific request for fund withdrawal, specifically for educational funding, the larger legal battle related to the distribution of Sunjay Kapur’s estate is ongoing.

Sunjay Kapur died in June 2025. The legal conflict arose among family members thereafter. The dispute involves Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, and the children of Karisma Kapoor. The centre of the conflict is the contested 2025 Will, which, some family members alleged, is a forged Will. As per the allegations, there are digital and textual inconsistencies in the document that create grounds for doubts.  

In a parallel proceeding, Rani Kapur filed a case seeking dissolution of a family trust. She levelled an accusation against Priya Kapur for using her (Rani Kapur) medical vulnerability to gain control over corporate affairs. As per the media reports, the matter is currently under mediation. India’s former Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud is mediating the matter under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court of India.
