PM Internship Scheme 2025: Last Date Extended to March 31

Young professionals have until March 31, 2025, to apply for the PM Internship Scheme and earn industry experience with a financial stipend of Rs 5,000 per month

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a government scheme meant to give young individuals experience in real working environments. Rolled out by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget 2024-25, the scheme has the intent of giving students and new graduates experience in working hands in reputed companies in India.

In an updated announcement, the government has pushed forward the deadline for registration under the PM Internship Scheme to March 31, 2025. Earlier, the deadline was March 12, 2025. This rescheduling will help more deserving candidates avail themselves of this facility. All those who have not yet registered are urged to register before the revised deadline to get an internship opportunity.

What is the PM Internship Scheme?

The PM Internship Scheme was launched to fill the gap between theoretical education and actual industry exposure. The scheme is meant to equip young people with a head start towards employment by posting them in some of India's best 500 firms. Through this scheme, interns acquire meaningful skills and exposure to actual working environments, giving their careers a boost.

The program also gives financial assistance to interns so that they can work on learning and development without any financial burdens.

Financial Support and Incentives

Interns who are chosen for the PM Internship Scheme will be given financial assistance during the program. The program extends the following incentives:

  • A Rs 5,000 stipend per month for the whole 12-month internship duration

  • The stipend will be given in two installments, the employer will give Rs 500 monthly depending on the intern's performance, attendance, and behaviour, and the balance Rs 4,500 will be credited to the intern's Aadhaar-linked bank account directly by the Government of India

  • Apart from the monthly allowance, interns will also be given a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 upon joining to assist with initial costs

  • This financial arrangement is made to make sure that interns are paid reasonably while acquiring valuable industry experience.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the PM Internship Scheme need to fulfil some eligibility criteria. These are:

  • Citizenship of India: Only citizens of India are eligible to apply

  • Age Requirement: Candidates should be between 21 and 24 years old as of the cutoff date for application

  • Employment Status: The candidates should not be undertaking full-time employment or full-time education. However, students in online or distance learning courses are allowed to apply.

  • Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed at least one of the following:

  1. Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent,

  2. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent,

  3. A certificate from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI),

  4. A diploma from a polytechnic institute,

  5. A graduation degree like BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BPharma, etc.

How to Register for the PM Internship Scheme

Registering for the PM Internship Scheme is very easy. All the interested applicants can follow the following steps:

  1. Visit Site: Visit the official PMIS portal or go directly to www.pminternship.mc.gov.in

  2. Language selection: Select your desired language from the options provided at the top-right corner

  3. Youth registration: Click on the 'Youth Registration' tab at the top-right corner of the home page

  4. Mobile number: Input your 10-digit mobile number, ideally associated with your Aadhaar. Remember that a mobile number can only be used for one registration

  5. OTP verification: On submitting your mobile number, input the OTP received on your phone and continue

  6. Password setup: Create a safe password for your account. In case of the wrong password input three times, your account will be locked temporarily for 15 minutes

  7. Access to Candidate Dashboard: Once you have registered successfully, access your Candidate Dashboard and proceed to the 'My Current Status' tab

  8. Profile completion: Complete your profile by entering details about your academic background, skills, and areas of interest. Candidates will not be able to apply for internships until their profile is complete.

  9. eKYC process: Complete your eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) using either Aadhaar or DigiLocker. To complete eKYC using Aadhaar, follow these steps:

  • Enter your Aadhaar number.

  • Tick the checkbox to provide consent for Aadhaar verification

  • Read and accept the terms and conditions before proceeding

  • Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number

  • Click ‘Verify OTP’ and then ‘Verify & Proceed’ to finalise your eKYC process
