Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app users will soon get new features in its upgraded version, BHIM 3.0. According to the NPCI BHIM Services Limited's (NBSL) press release this week, BHIM 3.0 will be available for all platforms in a phased manner and will be fully available expectantly by April 2025.
BHIM app was launched in 2016, and the latest version will be its third upgrade since launch. As per the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) website, as of February 28, 2025, there were 266.17 million BHIM app downloads on Android phones and 8.81 million on iPhone operating system (iOS) platforms.
BHIM is a UPI app that is aimed to offer users a simple, convenient, and fast mode of financial transactions. As a UPI app, it can be used to make and request payments using QR codes, virtual payment addresses (UPI IDs), or mobile numbers. The app supports payment for utility bills such as electricity, water, etc. One can also make in-app payments for bills. A user can also set auto payment for recurring payments, like mobile bills, etc., through this app.
Now, the latest version, BHIM 3.0, offers advanced features. Here are these.
BHIM 3.0 Features
For Individuals:
The upgraded app will enable users to onboard their family members. This feature will let users track expenditures and get a comprehensive picture of family expenses
The new version will have a dashboard feature, where users can view their monthly expenditure and spending patterns for the payments done through the BHIM App
Another feature is spending analytics, which will help users understand their spending patterns and better manage their money
Users would be able to split their bills among family members or friends easily. The 3.0 app will have the facility to divide the expenses among users, where everyone can pay their part of expenses directly through the app. The shared expenses could be rentals, travel expenses, dining out, and so on
Another useful feature offered by the app is payment reminders. With a built-in assistant in the app, users will get reminders for BHIM app-linked pending payments. In the case of UPI Lite, it will alert users whenever the balance is low
For Merchants:
NBSL launched the BHIM Vega feature for merchants. Under this, the in-app payment solution will be integrated with the online merchant platforms. This will increase customers’ convenience in making payments as the app will complete payment instantly instead of switching to a third-party app
Overall, the advanced features of the app will enable users to have better control and access to handle their finances. The enhanced features will be rolled out in phases, and the new version will be available to all users by the end of April 2025.
