Summary of this article

  • CoinEx is shutting down operations after nine years due to market downturns.

  • Spot trading ends September 29, 2026, while final withdrawals close December 22.

  • Fully-backed user assets remain withdrawable, and native CET tokens are being repurchased.

Cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx will cease operations after nine years, with the platform set to shut down in phases between September and December 2026. According to CoinEx, the decision follows a prolonged downturn in the cryptocurrency market, lower trading volume and liquidity, rising regulatory requirements, higher compliance costs, and operational uncertainties.

The exchange, which launched in December 2017, announced that it had gradually discontinued its services from September 15, 2026. Withdrawals will, however, remain available until December 22, 2026, it added.

CoinEx Shutdown Timeline

Several CoinEx services have already been discontinued from September 15, including new user registrations and referral rewards. All non-spot services will cease from September 22, while spot trading will stop on September 29.

CoinEx said users who wish to withdraw their non-USDT assets in their original form must do so before 02:00 UTC on September 29. After this deadline, crypto assets with liquidity in external markets will be disposed of and converted into USDT, with the proceeds credited to users’ spot accounts. Assets without external market liquidity will be gradually delisted.

The withdrawal period will end at 02:00 UTC on December 22, 2026, after which the exchange platform will cease operations.

What Happens To User Assets?

CoinEx said its asset reserve ratio is above 100 per cent and all user assets are fully-backed and available for withdrawal. The exchange will also repurchase CET, its native token, at 0.005 USDT per CET. The repurchase window runs until September 29, after which any remaining CET in user accounts will be automatically repurchased at the same price.

CoinEx said users should rely only on its official channels during the shutdown and cautioned against scams seeking private keys, passwords, verification codes, or asset transfers for supposed withdrawals or compensation.

The company also clarified that CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault are separate businesses and are not affected by the exchange’s cessation of operations.
